Business concept, vision, targets and strategies

Better and safer working environment

In most industrial processes, compounds are created that affect employees, production equipment and end-product quality negatively in different ways.

In welding and grinding, for example, employees are exposed to weld smoke and dust that can give rise to lung cancer, asthma, respiratory diseases, skin problems and allergies. Oil mist, dust and other particles tear on productivity facilities, increase the risk of operational disruptions and may affect the quality on the end-products negatively.

Both the EU and North America currently have strict environmental legislation that regulates how much smoke/dust an employee can be exposed to. Several other countries have or will gradually introduce the same stricter legislation. Other areas where the legislation around the world is constantly being made more stringent is Exhaust management from all kinds of vehicles – from cars to heavy military vehicles. Very high requirements on a clean and healthy environment are set particularly in within fire prevention where the personnel work, live and sleep during longer periods of time.

Since mid-2006 there is legislation that all equipment and components (both new and existing) in explosive environments must fulfil the requirements of and be approved under the ATEX directives1), issued by the EU. Dust explosions can occur when handling dry material (e.g. metal and flour dust, sugar and wood chips) within e.g. the food and pharmaceutical industries. Different kinds of gases, such as in the chemical industry, can also cause explosions and the same rules apply here.

Business concept and vision

Nederman shall be a world-leading company with products that create better working environments and thereby reduce environment-related health and production problems. The company shall lead technology development within the product areas and offer the market a complete product range under the ”Nederman ” trademark, known under the motto: “Nederman – improving your workspace”. Nederman’s products and systems shall provide the customer value by creating: (i) a clean and safe working environment, (ii) higher quality of end-product and fewer operational disruptions, (iii) more effective production and (iv) better energy consumption.

A clean and safe working environment
Health risks at workplaces decrease by dust, smoke, exhaust and other air particles being extracted directly at the source (capture at source) and by various media (e.g. oil, air, water and electricity) being supplied to the workstation in an ergonomic, safe and effective manner. This minimises the risk of damage and improves the employees’ working environment.

Higher quality of end-product and fewer operational disruptions
The quality of both end-product and production equipment is negatively impacted by dust, smoke and particles that arise under manufacturing processes. This can cause unnecessary wear on tools and other production equipment and in some cases cause sensitive instruments to malfunction. This can in turn lead to disruptions in production and expensive downtime. Nederman’s solutions ensure product quality and working machine status, and provide safer production.

More efficient production
Through easily available systems for capture at source of dust, smoke and particles, a simpler, more efficient production is created. Nederman’s readily available hose and cable reels supply workstations with different media in a safe and ergonomically proper manner. Problems with loose hoses and cables disappear and the risk of accidents is thereby decreased.

Better energy consumption
Nederman expects rising energy prices to increase the manufacturing industry’s needs of energy efficient air treatment. This is about extraction equipment not drawing an unnecessary amount of energy and not wasting volumes of heated/cooled air unnecessarily. This trend is clearer in areas with a cold climate as well as in warmer countries where there is a reliance on air conditioning. The Company has developed control systems and patented solutions with automatic dampers that effectively adapt the work of Nederman’s systems with regard to energy consumption. This concerns e.g. the exhaust at individual workstations in a large facility instantaneously being regulated as necessary and with consideration of the exhaust at surrounding workstations.
