The release mechanism for the MagnaTrack system consists of a permanent magnet mounted on the rail and an electronic sensor box mounted on the trolley. When the electronic sensor passes by the permanent magnet, polarity is revers on the electromagnet that holds the system to the truck. The system disconnects from the truck with no slingshot effect. The permanent magnet may be slid along the rail to any desired position to ensure proper disconnect timing and is easily adjusted if new apparatus is introduced into the bay.
