New OSHA Standards for Hexavalent Chromium Cr(VI)
in Welding fumes
Hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) in welding fume is a serious threat to health and safety. The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) in the US has issued a new standard for permissible exposure limit (PEL) of hexavalent chromium, which is lowered by more than 10 times. The maximal exposure limit is now 5 micrograms per cubic meter of air.
The OSHA standard stipulates that adequate equipment must be installed to keep the exposure below the limit.
